Federal Agents Arrest Undocumented Immigrant in Elgin
A video circulating on social media has sparked outrage after showing federal agents forcibly removing a man from a pickup truck in Elgin, Illinois. The man’s partner claims he has lived and worked in the area for 12 years without any criminal record.
The incident occurred on Monday morning when multiple federal agents arrived at the scene. Eyewitness Jasmine Miller described the scene as chaotic, stating, “All of a sudden, I hear sirens, and then out of nowhere, you just see everybody running. It’s sad.”
Veronica Moreno, who captured video of the arrest, said, “It was very heartbreaking, especially when they literally broke his window… They threw him on the floor.” The video shows at least half a dozen agents involved in the operation.
The arrested man’s partner, Kristen Solorio, who is eight months pregnant, was present during the arrest. She told ABC7 in Spanish that she doesn’t believe her partner was the target of the operation. Solorio also stated that the agents didn’t show a warrant during the arrest.
The FBI confirmed to ABC7 that they were assisting in an immigration enforcement action that resulted in the man’s arrest around 7:30 a.m. An ICE spokesperson was unable to provide a reason for the arrest.
This incident comes as President Donald Trump has called for expanded ICE deportation raids in Chicago and other major Democratic cities. Sam Olson, director of the Chicago ICE field office, stated that migrants with criminal records remain the primary target, but protesters could face prosecution if they interfere with operations.
The community is on edge following this incident, with many expressing concern over the increasing frequency of immigration raids. State Sen. Graciela Guzman noted, “People are besides themselves. They are unsure if they are going to walk out of their appointment.”
Solorio has already contacted immigration attorneys and has been provided with her partner’s case number and court date, set for July 11 in Broadview. The community continues to rally around the family affected by the arrest.
