Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Continues Record-Breaking Streak
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has set two new lap records for series-production electric cars at the Road Atlanta circuit in the United States and the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. Professional racing driver Patrick Long completed a lap at Road Atlanta in just 1:27.1 minutes, beating the previous record set by the Taycan Turbo S in 2020 by over six seconds. The record-breaking run took place under challenging weather conditions, with the track still drying out from rain.
Long praised the Porsche Active Ride system, saying, “I expected precise steering, but I didn’t realise how perfectly the Porsche Active Ride system would compensate for the car’s body motion.” At the Yas Marina Circuit, UAE-based GT race driver Ramez Azzam lapped the 5.281-kilometer Formula 1 circuit in 2:07.2 minutes, just 1.1 seconds off the touring car lap record. This achievement was officially recognized by the Emirates Motorsport Association as the fastest production BEV around Yas Marina’s full GP circuit.
Azzam noted, “Electric cars are known for being fast on the straights, but the Taycan Turbo GT shows its true strength over a full lap. The agile, perfectly balanced Porsche suspension and brakes gave me the confidence I needed to give it my all.” These recent records continue a string of achievements for the Taycan Turbo GT, which is the most powerful production Porsche ever made. Previous records include a lap time of 1:42.1 minutes at the Interlagos F1 Circuit by Felipe Nasr, and 2:11.2 minutes at the Shanghai International Circuit by Lars Kern.
