A dramatic rescue operation took place at Buttonwood Campground in Walker Township on Monday, June 16, after a pickup truck with a person inside floated into the Juniata River. The Mifflintown Hose Company #1 received a report of the incident and dispatched crews around 8:33 p.m.
Upon arrival, responders found that bystanders had already managed to pull the truck near the shoreline and secured it to a tree. The person trapped inside was successfully extracted and handed over to EMS personnel for evaluation at a nearby hospital. The rescue operation was brought under control without the need for mutual aid units, although some units remained on standby.
The response team included Rescue 2, Engine 2, and MICU 15-2, with Chief 2 serving as the command on the scene. Nineteen personnel from the Mifflintown Hose Company were involved in the rescue efforts. After stabilizing the truck, crews assisted wrecker services in securing the vehicle.
