The Nation’s Favourite Vans Revealed
A recent survey by comparison site Go.Compare has thrown up some surprising results about the UK’s favourite vans from popular culture. At the top of the list is the grubby yellow van from the classic BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses, driven by Del Boy and Rodney Trotter. Contrary to popular belief, this isn’t a Reliant Robin, but actually a Reliant Regal Supervan III.

Despite its numerous shortcomings, including a fibreglass body, a puny 29hp 700cc engine, and only three wheels, the Supervan III remains a firm favourite with Britons. The van gained near-mythical status thanks to its starring role in the 1988 Only Fools and Horses Christmas special car chase.
Other Favourite Vans from Film and TV
The survey revealed some other interesting results, with the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters coming in second place. Interestingly, there’s a strong argument that the Ecto-1 isn’t actually a van at all, but a modified Cadillac Series 75 limousine.

The Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo came in third, despite being of unknown manufacture. This van has been a favourite among 25- to 34-year-olds, according to the survey.

Other vans featured in the survey include the GMC Vandura from The A-Team, Postman Pat’s van, Wallace and Gromit’s Austin A35, and the modified Ford Econoline from Dumb and Dumber.
The survey highlights the nostalgia and affection that Britons have for vans that have appeared in popular culture. Whether it’s the reliability of the Ford Transit or the quirky charm of the Reliant Regal Supervan III, vans have played a significant role in shaping our cultural heritage.
