Dramatic Water Rescue at Juniata County Campground

A pickup truck crashed into a river at Buttonwood Campground in Walker Township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania, on Monday, June 16, around 8:30 p.m. The Mifflintown Hose Company #1 responded to the water rescue call after receiving reports that a truck had entered the river and was floating away with the driver still inside.

Upon arrival, rescue crews found that bystanders had already taken swift action, securing the floating truck to a nearby tree and rescuing the driver. The subject was then handed over to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel. The driver was subsequently transported to a local emergency room for treatment.

Fire crews assisted in securing the vehicle for wrecker services to safely remove it from the river. The quick actions of both the bystanders and the rescue team likely prevented a more serious outcome.

The incident is a reminder of the importance of water safety and the need for caution near water bodies, especially in recreational areas like campgrounds. Authorities have not released detailed information about the driver’s condition or the cause of the accident.

The response effort was led by the Mifflintown Hose Company #1, highlighting the critical role of emergency services in such situations.
