Honda is set to unveil its Super EV concept at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed, and the compact electric hatchback appears to be on the verge of production. The company has released a single image of the vehicle, disguised, as it crosses Westminster Bridge in front of the UK’s Houses of Parliament.
Key Features of Honda Super EV Concept
Recent Honda concepts have typically previewed production cars within a year or two of launch. The Super EV seems to follow this pattern, boasting production-ready features such as full-size wing mirrors, fully-framed windows, functioning door handles, and a reasonably sized wheel and tire combination. The concept’s wide and chunky wheel arches may be the only element likely to be modified for the production model.
Market Positioning and Design
Honda describes the Super EV as an A-segment model, positioning it to compete with the upcoming all-electric Renault Twingo in Europe. The dimensions may even qualify it as a kei car in Japan, with potential tax and road charge benefits. The Super EV’s styling, featuring round headlights, aligns with Honda’s N family of kei cars, such as the N-One.
Performance and Comparison to Honda E
While details about the Super EV’s drivetrain are not yet available, it is hoped that it will be more competitive than its predecessor, the Honda E. The Honda E, equipped with a 35.5kWh battery and a 100kW or 113kW motor, had a limited WLTP range rating of just 222km, contributing to its commercial failure due to pricing and range issues.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is scheduled to take place from July 10 to 13, 2025. As Honda continues to develop its electric vehicle lineup, the Super EV concept represents a significant step forward in the company’s EV strategy.
