Stellantis has issued a recall for more than 19,500 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans due to a potential fire risk associated with the vehicle’s battery. The recall affects model-year 2017-2021 Pacifica Hybrids.
The issue stems from an abnormality in the high-voltage battery pack’s cells, which could lead to a fire. To mitigate this risk, owners are advised to stop charging their vehicles and park them away from buildings and other vehicles until a remedy is implemented.
According to Stellantis, there have been seven reported fires related to this issue, resulting in four customers experiencing smoke inhalation symptoms. The automaker is developing a software update to detect the abnormality, and if detected, dealers will replace the high-voltage battery free of charge.
Owners will receive notification letters by mail, but they can also check if their vehicle is affected by visiting Mopar’s recalls site or the National Safety Council’s site after July 24. Additionally, owners can contact Stellantis directly at 800-853-1403 or check their vehicle identification number on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.
This recall follows another recent Stellantis recall affecting 332,000 Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Jeep vehicles due to an airbag issue.
