A battery company, 24M Technologies, has announced a significant breakthrough in battery technology with its new Eternalyte electrolyte. The company claims this innovation can charge batteries up to four times faster than today’s electric vehicle (EV) batteries and maintain performance in extreme cold conditions. This advancement is touted as a potential game-changer for the EV industry, enabling next-generation lithium metal batteries with over 1,000 miles of driving range.

The Eternalyte electrolyte achieves a step change in ionic conductivity, which is the rate at which ions flow between a battery’s anode and cathode. This results in a much higher charge rate without requiring expensive MegaWatt charging infrastructure. Tests have shown that batteries using Eternalyte retain nearly all their capacity at 0°C and more than 80% at -40°C, addressing the issue of reduced EV range in cold weather.

    Key Features of Eternalyte Electrolyte

    • Up to four times faster charging than current EV batteries
    • Performs well in extreme cold conditions
    • Compatible with lithium metal, silicon, and graphite-based batteries
    • Can be integrated into existing manufacturing processes without significant changes

The technology is designed to be backward compatible with current battery types while paving the way for future advancements. Its broad working temperature window means EVs could maintain performance in both cold and hot conditions, preventing the typical drop in battery capacity during winter months.

While the exact details of Eternalyte remain undisclosed, the company’s claims suggest a promising future for EV technology. If successfully implemented, this could lead to reduced charging times, improved range, and better performance in extreme conditions for future electric vehicles. Automotive manufacturers may have reason to acknowledge 24M Technologies if we see rapid improvements in these areas in the coming years.
