Traffic along Route 1 through Thomaston was diverted down side streets on Thursday afternoon as Thomaston Police waited for a crash reconstructionist to arrive. The diversion followed a collision at approximately 12:30 p.m. near Main and Erin streets involving a pickup truck and a riding lawn mower. According to on-scene beliefs, the operator of the lawn mower was attempting to cross Route 1 when the crash occurred. The lawn mower operator was transported to the hospital with serious leg injuries, while the pickup truck driver remained uninjured. Thomaston Police were assisted by Thomaston Fire and Ambulance, who used a Rockland ambulance while their own rig was undergoing repairs. All Fire and EMS personnel left the scene by 1:40 p.m. Due to the serious injury sustained in the crash, law enforcement was required to inform a State reconstructionist. As no local reconstructionist was available, assistance was sought from Lincoln County.
