HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Three people were hospitalized after a Houston police patrol unit collided with a pickup truck in the Settegast area on Sunday. The crash occurred just before 12:30 p.m. when two officers were driving down North Wayside Drive, reportedly responding to a call, and a pickup truck pulled out in front of them. The patrol unit slammed into the truck, resulting in minor injuries to the two officers and the pickup truck driver. All three were taken to Memorial Hermann hospital. The pickup truck driver’s family shared a photo of a head wound requiring staples and described him as bruised and bloodied. The Houston Police Department found beer cans in the truck and is investigating whether the driver was intoxicated. The driver was not facing any charges as of Sunday evening. The family has requested anonymity, and ABC13 is concealing their identity. A neighbor, Annie Russell, described the driver as someone who collects cans for her and other elderly people in the neighborhood. The investigation is ongoing.
