Businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize is on the verge of losing her multi-million rand car collection as the South African Revenue Service (SARS) moves to auction off 14 high-end vehicles belonging to her Royal AM Football Club. The auction, scheduled to run from June 27 to July 2 through Bidders Choice Group, aims to recover R37-million in unpaid taxes.
The star attraction is a 2022 Mercedes-Benz S680 Maybach ‘Edition 100’, one of only 100 produced worldwide. Other luxury vehicles up for sale include a 2020 Bentley Continental GTC valued at over R4-million, a 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen ONYX, and a 2022 BMW i7 xDrive60. The collection also features a 2012 BMW 750i, 2018 BMW GT 640i, 2016 BMW X1, and several other high-end cars.
Background of the Tax Dispute
The auction follows a court-ordered curatorship for Royal AM in 2024, which allowed for the sale of the club’s assets to cover debts. Mkhize has contested the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) decision to expel Royal AM from the competition, filing a court case against the league. The PSL had accused Royal AM of dishonesty during membership renewal and ignoring FIFA registration bans.
Mkhize defended her position, stating that she and her son Andile Mpisane were legitimate directors at the time of renewal on July 1, 2024. She attributed missed matches to a SARS court order that froze the club’s accounts in November 2024, claiming that curator Jaco Venter failed to pay players and staff. The PSL countered by cutting Royal AM’s monthly grant of R2.3-million, exacerbating the situation.
Financial Troubles Extend Beyond Tax Debt
Royal AM faces deeper financial issues, with star striker Samir Nurkovic owed over R15-million and defender Ricardo Nascimento still awaiting R600,000 plus interest since September 2023. The PSL has replaced Royal AM with three new teams from the ABC Motsepe League. Interestingly, Royal AM has been removed from FIFA’s list of banned teams without clear explanation.
Mkhize’s legal battle with the PSL continues as she faces financial challenges on multiple fronts. The outcome of the court case and the fate of her luxury car collection remain uncertain.
