West Shore RCMP are investigating two 19-year-old men for impaired driving after a late-night incident in Langford’s Belmont Market parking lot. On June 24 at around 11:30 p.m., Mounties responded to reports of pickup trucks being driven erratically, with drivers performing burnouts in the parking lot outside 3005 Merchant Way.
RCMP frontline and traffic unit officers quickly located the two drivers – one operating a grey Ford F350 and the other a red Dodge Ram. Both drivers showed signs of alcohol impairment and were subsequently investigated.
The driver of the Ford F350 received a three-day immediate roadside prohibition, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The driver of the red Dodge Ram was issued a 90-day roadside prohibition, with his truck also impounded for 30 days.
RCMP Cpl. Mike Jacobson praised the swift action of the complainant in reporting the incident, saying, “Officers were able to locate these vehicles right away due to quick actions of the complainant reporting it to police as it was unfolding.” Jacobson emphasized that road safety is a priority for West Shore RCMP, stating, “If you see dangerous driving behaviour and/or suspect impaired driving, please report it to police right away.” The local detachment can be reached at 250-474-2264.
