General Motors is recalling over 62,000 of its medium-duty trucks due to a potential fire hazard. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall, which affects certain Chevrolet Silverado 4500 HD, 5500 HD, and 6500 HD trucks from model years 2019 to 2024.
The issue stems from an electrical short in the brake pressure switch, which could overheat and potentially lead to a fire, whether the vehicle is in motion or parked. To address this safety risk, dealers will replace the problematic brake pressure switch wire harness free of charge to owners.
Affected vehicle owners can expect to receive initial notification letters around July 28, warning them of the safety risk. Once repair parts become available, a follow-up letter will be sent to inform owners when they can have the necessary repairs made.
The recall underscores the importance of vehicle safety and the proactive measures taken by manufacturers and regulatory bodies to mitigate potential hazards on the road.
