A tragic accident occurred early Tuesday morning in Lea County, New Mexico, resulting in the death of a teenager. The Lea County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident happened around 4:47 a.m. on June 24 on Orla Road. Deputies responded to reports of a vehicle collision and found a maroon 2016 GMC Sierra lodged beneath a white 2007 Freightliner commercial motor vehicle with an attached tank trailer.
The investigation revealed that the GMC Sierra was traveling north on Orla Road when it collided with the Freightliner’s tank trailer. The commercial truck had been exiting a lease road to the east and was attempting to turn south onto Orla Road at the time of the crash. The driver of the GMC Sierra, identified as 19-year-old Dominick Calderon from San Elizario, Texas, suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
The Lea County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is continuing to investigate the incident. As of the latest update, no further information was available regarding the circumstances surrounding the collision.
