Ford has issued a recall for 3,506 Transit vans from the 2022-2023 model years due to a potential issue with their driver’s instrument clusters. The problem is that the instrument clusters may fail to display necessary warnings. This is not the first time Ford has addressed this issue; in 2023, the company recalled over 30,000 Transit models for the same problem. Initially, Ford resolved the issue for most vehicles with a software update. However, it was later discovered that the system used by dealers to update the software could sometimes report a successful installation even if it had failed. As a result, some vans were returned to their owners without being properly fixed. Ford has since developed a method to identify vehicles that had failed installations. Dealers now have a new update process that allows them to verify the success of the installation before considering the recall complete. Owners of the affected vans will be asked to return their vehicles to dealerships, where the update will be installed again. As with all recall repairs, this service will be provided free of charge. It’s worth noting that multiple recalls are common during a vehicle’s lifespan, and manufacturers strive to contact all owners, though they don’t always succeed. Vehicle owners can check for any outstanding recalls using the VIN tool available at the recall center.
