Ford’s EV and Hybrid Strategy: Manufacturing Plant Updates and Future Plans
Ford is making significant moves to boost its electric vehicle (EV) production while also expanding its hybrid vehicle offerings. The company is streamlining its manufacturing operations and reevaluating timelines for upcoming EV launches to align with market demands.
Ford’s commitment to EVs is evident in its ongoing investments in a variety of programs. Alongside this, Ford is broadening its hybrid electric vehicle choices. They anticipate offering hybrid powertrains across the entire Ford Blue lineup in North America by the close of this decade.
In the initial quarter of 2024, Ford’s EV sales experienced an 86% surge, while hybrid sales climbed by 42% compared to the previous year.

The Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center assembly plant at BlueOval City is making headway. The goal is to begin customer deliveries of Ford’s next-generation electric truck in 2026. This new plant will integrate automation and connectivity to elevate both quality and efficiency.
At the Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, expansion is in progress to manufacture a brand-new electric commercial vehicle for Ford Pro clients, slated for the middle of the decade. In the meantime, construction is also underway at BlueOval Battery Park Michigan and at the BlueOval SK battery plants in Tennessee and Kentucky.
Ford is also committed to its Oakville, Ontario, assembly plant. The company has adjusted the launch timing of its new three-row electric vehicles to 2027. This adjustment offers Ford additional time to watch the consumer market for these vehicles mature and to leverage emerging battery technology, intending to provide improved durability and better value to its customers.

Design work is continually advancing on future EVs, including a flexible, small, and affordable EV platform. This endeavor is led by a skunkworks team in California.

Ford’s strategic initiatives support the development of a profitable EV business. This approach provides customers with a balanced selection of gas, hybrid, and electric vehicles tailored to current demand.
