Motability Scheme Extends New Vehicle Payment
The Motability Scheme is giving people a bit more time to get a new car. The deadline for the £750 New Vehicle Payment is now January 3, 2025. This is great news if you’re looking to get your first car through the scheme.
This extension is just for new customers, and those ordering a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV). The original deadline was December 31, 2024. The extra few days are to help people who might have had trouble ordering because of the holidays.
Who Gets the Payment?
If you’re ordering your first car or WAV by January 3, 2025, you get the £750. This payment is a one-time thing, so you won’t get it every time you get a new vehicle.
How Does It Work?
You don’t need to pick up your car by January 3, 2025, but you must have ordered it by then.
There are two ways to get the payment:
- To the Dealer: You can send the £750 to your dealer to help with the cost of the car’s Advance Payment. If the Advance Payment is over £750, you pay the difference. If it’s under £750, the scheme will send you the rest.
- To You: If you don’t send the payment to the dealer, or if your car doesn’t have an Advance Payment, the scheme will send you the full £750 within a few weeks of you getting your car. It will be a bank transfer if you have the details saved, or a check.
Scooters and Powered Wheelchairs
If you’re getting a scooter or a powered wheelchair, the New Product Payment is £100. This has also been extended to January 3, 2025. You can’t get both the New Vehicle Payment and the New Product Payment.
Joining the Scheme
To join the Motability Scheme, you’ll need a qualifying mobility allowance with at least 12 months left.
The scheme provides a worry-free package that includes:
- Insurance for up to three drivers
