Tata Motors Expands Vehicle Scrapping Network with New Pune Facility
Tata Motors has opened its sixth vehicle scrapping facility in India, marking a significant step towards promoting a circular economy in the automotive sector. The new Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF), named ‘Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect,’ is located in Pune and was established in collaboration with Tata International, the global trading and distribution arm of the Tata Group.
This state-of-the-art facility, operated by Tata International Vehicle Applications (TIVA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata International, is designed to handle up to 21,000 end-of-life vehicles annually. It is equipped to scrap both passenger and commercial vehicles, regardless of brand. Prior to this launch, five other Re.Wi.Re facilities are successfully operating in Jaipur, Bhubaneshwar, Surat, Chandigarh, and Delhi NCR.
The Re.Wi.Re facilities operate digitally to minimize paper waste and use cell-type and line-type dismantling methods for both commercial and passenger vehicles. Dedicated stations are set up to ensure the safe removal of tires, batteries, fluids, and other components. Each vehicle undergoes a documentation and dismantling process that adheres to all regulations for responsible scrapping, which includes the safe disposal of all parts, in line with the national vehicle scrappage policy.
Speaking at the inauguration, Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors, highlighted the company’s commitment to creating a circular economy. He stated that Re.Wi.Re facilities leverage advanced recycling processes to maximize value from end-of-life vehicles and to support the country’s sustainability goals. This represents Tata Motors’ dedication to shaping the future of mobility through its products, services, and digital solutions. Re.Wi.Re facilities are designed to be a key factor in fostering eco-friendly practices within the automotive industry.
