Rivian has hit a speed bump.
The electric vehicle maker has paused the production of its commercial delivery vans, which are used by Amazon.
A parts shortage is the culprit, according to a company spokesperson on Friday.
Like other EV manufacturers, Rivian has been dealing with sourcing issues.
The company stated, “A part shortage has temporarily impacted our Electric Delivery Van (EDV) production. We expect to recover all missed production.”
Rivian didn’t specify the type of part or supplier causing the issue, and also didn’t say when the stoppage began or if it has ended.
The parts shortage won’t impact the production of other Rivian models, such as the R1S SUV and R1T pickup.
Amazon acknowledged Rivian’s “short-term production issues this month” and does not anticipate any impact.
Amazon has ordered 100,000 electric delivery vans from Rivian to be on the road by 2030. Last year, sales to Amazon made up roughly 19% of Rivian’s revenue.
Rivian previously said its production forecast remained unchanged. Deliveries were expected to be slightly lower this quarter due to a factory shutdown in April for upgrades.
