Vehicles Taking Their Final Bow in 2024
It’s a bittersweet time for automotive enthusiasts. Several popular vehicles are heading into the sunset this year, marking the end of an era for some beloved models. Automakers are discontinuing a number of cars, SUVs, trucks, and vans, making way for new models and potentially, a shift towards electric vehicles. Here’s a rundown of some of the notable vehicles saying goodbye.
Dodge Charger
The Dodge Charger, with its iconic muscle car styling, wrapped up production of its four-door sedan version with the 2023 model year. Known for its powerful V-8 engines, including the supercharged SRT Hellcat variants, the Charger delivered excitement for years.
Dodge Challenger
Another muscle car icon, the Dodge Challenger, is also slated for discontinuation after the 2024 model year. Though it hasn’t seen significant style changes since 2008, Dodge did experiment with the Challenger’s body and interior over the years. While there’s a possibility that it could return as a coupe in the future, for now, the Challenger will be joining the ranks of automotive legends.
Ford Transit Connect Wagon
This versatile van, know for its flexible cargo options, is heading to the automotive graveyard as well. Production of the Ford Transit Connect Wagon ended with the 2023 model year, and buyers will need to opt for the full-size Transit or look at other sources for their minivan needs.
Nissan Maxima
The Nissan Maxima, a full-size sedan, is saying goodbye in its gas-powered version. However, there’s a silver lining: The Maxima is slated to return in 2026 with a completely new design, possibly even as an electric vehicle. For those who prefer sedans, Nissan will continue to offer the Versa, Sentra, and Altima.

Mercedes E-Class Coupe and Convertible
Mercedes is discontinuing its E-Class coupe and convertible models in 2024, with the CLE-class coupe and convertible replacing them. The German manufacturer is streamlining its model lineup.
Mercedes CLS Coupe
In line with the trend of downsizing its model offerings, Mercedes is also discontinuing the CLS coupe. This four-door sedan-coupe will be combined with the 2025 E-Class and GT 4-Door.
Mazda MX-30
The Mazda MX-30 electric vehicle, while featuring an attractive interior and exterior, didn’t resonate with buyers, in part because of its limited range of only 100 miles on a full charge. With a $35,000 price tag, sales were not what Mazda had hoped for.
Chrysler 300
Chrysler is discontinuing their 300 model. The current generation of the big-bodied sedan won’t be eliminated entirely, with plans for a new 300 in the future. The new design may drop its V-8 gas engine for an electrified powertrain.
Kia Rio
The Kia Rio subcompact sedan and hatchback are also being removed from production. The car was one of the few that started under $20,000. Although there is no major reason for the discontinuation, it’s possible that Kia plans to revamp the model as an EV.
