Jetour Banking on Gasoline SUVs in Indonesian Market
JAKARTA – While many Chinese automakers are entering the Indonesian market with electric vehicle offerings like BYD and Zeekr, Jetour stands out by launching gasoline-powered cars. The brand currently features two flagship SUVs, the Jetour Dashing and Jetour X70 Plus, equipped with gasoline and turbo engines.
“For now, I think the existing Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) is still relevant. While several other brands are focused on electric cars, even though we are selling ICEs, we do have plans for electrification and our future model display was the X50E,” said Moch Ranggy Radisyah, Marketing Director of PT Jetour Motor Indonesia, during a meeting in Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday, February 25.
Ranggy explained that Jetour aims to develop vehicles for travel and mobile development, not merely for commuting. He cited several reasons for the brand’s continued reliance on ICE cars, including the flexibility gasoline cars offer without the need for additional infrastructure.
“The current ICE is suitable for fairly long travel and consumers find it profitable since it’s easy to access fuel, and the power from gasoline engines. Because we also see that there are advantages for gasoline engines, especially for off-road needs, we will focus on ICE and PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) later. We are also strategizing for electrification,” he added.
Jetour’s concentration on the SUV segment reflects the success of SUVs under the brand in China. The brand has achieved outstanding accomplishments that have touched the number of 1 million units under five years.
“Our focus is on SUV brands and we have a very clear model, roadmap champion, and very solid plans. We have a family travel series that we have already launched, and future models will be off-road travel series, so we do focus on travel or journey capabilities for consumers. We develop products relevant to various scenarios, urban, rural, and off-road,” concluded Ranggy, emphasizing Jetour’s commitment to diverse driving needs.
