Stellantis has announced a recall of more than 19,500 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans due to a potential fire risk. The recall affects model-year 2017-21 Pacifica Hybrids.
The issue stems from a problem with the high-voltage battery pack cells. Owners are being advised to avoid charging their minivans, as this reduces the risk of fire. They are also urged to park their vehicles away from other cars and structures until a remedy is implemented.
According to Stellantis, there have been seven reported fires related to this issue. Four customers have reported symptoms of smoke inhalation.
The remedy for the issue is currently in development and involves a software update to detect the abnormality within the battery pack. If the abnormality is detected, dealers will replace the high-voltage battery free of charge. The automaker will send notification letters to owners, but owners can also check Mopar’s recalls site or the National Safety Council’s site after July 24. Additionally, owners can contact Stellantis at 800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
This recall follows an earlier recall in early July of 332,000 Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Jeep vehicles related to an airbag issue.
