Luxury automakers, particularly those hailing from Germany, have embraced the coupe-style SUV for several years. Now, Genesis enters the arena with its GV80 Coupe.
Once, the term “coupe” denoted a two-door car. Today, it’s commonly used for four-door SUVs featuring a curved roofline, and the GV80 Coupe fits that description perfectly. However, that sloping roof design means there’s no room for a third-row seat.
Genesis continues to impress with its attention to detail. The interior boasts a large 27-inch video panel, which serves as both the main dashboard and the central touchscreen display. Carbon fiber trim with a unique weave adds a sporty touch. Practical luxury is provided by an automatic fragrance system and a heated center armrest. The transmission is an 8-speed automatic.
The second-row seats are heated, cooled, and power-adjustable. Without that third row, cargo capacity is notable.
While base models offer a turbo-four engine, the test vehicle was equipped with an optional V6 that benefits from both a turbocharger and an electric supercharger. This setup generates a robust 409 horsepower. Performance is strong, although the GV80 Coupe leans more toward luxury travel than outright sports car dynamics. When properly configured, it can tow up to 6,000 pounds.
So, for the 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe 3.5 V6, the verdict is positive for its striking styling, satisfactory performance, and luxurious features. However, the absence of a third-row seat is a drawback.
During testing, I averaged approximately 18 miles per gallon. The as-tested price was $87,780.
