Emporia Police are investigating a pickup truck fire and subsequent crash that occurred early Saturday morning. The incident was reported near the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Sherman Street shortly after 2:20 a.m.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley reported that the initial call described a vehicle accident. However, upon arrival, firefighters discovered the truck was already ablaze. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on the scene just minutes later. The pickup truck had collided with a light pole, causing it to break.
Following the incident, the driver of the truck declined transport to a hospital. Authorities have not yet determined whether the truck was already on fire at the time of the crash or if the collision caused the fire.
