DURHAM, N.C. — Traffic was significantly impacted in Durham on Saturday afternoon due to a collision on the I-885/N.C. 147. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) reported the incident, which occurred shortly after 1:10 p.m.
The crash took place along the southbound N.C. 147/I-885 near mile marker 7, close to T.W. Alexander Drive, according to the NCDOT. The accident involved two vehicles: a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a pickup truck. The pickup truck ended up in the median following the wreck. The left lane of southbound I-885, formerly known as the Durham Freeway/N.C. 147, was blocked, causing considerable traffic congestion.
Emergency services responded to the scene, including two fire engines and an ambulance. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol indicated that a silver Ford Explorer had rear-ended the pickup truck when traffic slowed.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the collision. However, the wreck caused a traffic backup of over a mile in the area, affecting motorists heading south.
