Fatal Crash in North Salem
Salem, Oregon – A 77-year-old man died, and a 49-year-old man was critically injured after a pickup truck struck them on Silverton Road NE near Highway Ave NE early Saturday morning, according to the Salem Police Department.
Police responded to the scene in north Salem just after 2 a.m. Saturday. Both men were transported to Salem Health hospital for treatment.
Raymond Dale, the 77-year-old, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, police confirmed. The 49-year-old man remains hospitalized with critical injuries.
A 17-year-old female, who police said was with the men, witnessed the crash.
The driver of the truck, a 63-year-old Salem man, remained at the scene, according to authorities.
The Salem Police Traffic Team is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Salem Fire Department emergency personnel also responded to assist.
Silverton Road NE was closed for several hours as a result of the crash. The accident marks the third traffic fatality in Salem this year, police said.
