Rivian Opens Commercial Van Orders to All Businesses
Following rumors and anticipation, Rivian has officially launched its commercial van for order by businesses of any size, even those needing just a single vehicle. This marks a significant shift for the electric vehicle manufacturer, which initially focused on a large-scale partnership with Amazon.
Rivian first announced its plans for electric delivery vans in 2019 as part of an agreement with Amazon, which placed an order for 100,000 vehicles. So far, the company has delivered approximately 20,000 vans to the online retail giant.

The Amazon deal included a four-year exclusivity period, during which Rivian sold vans exclusively to Amazon. This ended in November 2023, allowing Rivian to offer its commercial van to other partners. Rivian also renamed the vehicle, moving from “Electric Delivery Van” to “Rivian Commercial Vehicle” to signal its intention to sell to a broader market beyond delivery services. Potential customers include contractors, handymen, and, hopefully, food trucks.
Rivian has already received interest from other companies and sightings of their vans in varied liveries. However, no major deals have emerged since the exclusivity period with Amazon ended. Today, Rivian is introducing this new fleet sales program accepting orders from businesses of all sizes, even those needing only one van.
The Rivian Commercial Vehicle (RCV) now comes in two models: the RCV 500 and the RCV 700. The RCV 700 offers increased cargo space due to its longer and wider dimensions.
*Estimated range depends on several factors, including load weight, which can vary greatly with commercial vehicles.
As with many commercial vehicle sales, the listed price does not include upfitting costs. Rivian states that its Fleet Sales team will work directly with businesses to determine upfit specifications, or customers may opt to work with their preferred upfitters.

Although Rivian is taking orders from fleets of any size, the vehicles are still sold exclusively to businesses, not to individuals. All vans must be registered to a business entity.
Rivian plans to begin accepting orders this month, with deliveries starting in April. Businesses interested in purchasing the Rivian Commercial Vehicle are encouraged to contact Rivian fleet sales.
