2025 Ram Heavy Duty: What to Expect
The 2025 Ram Heavy Duty (HD) trucks continue the tradition of offering extensive customization options. Buyers can choose from various cab sizes, bed lengths, trim levels, and powertrains to fit their specific needs. This overview details the engine choices, cab configurations, and features available across the HD lineup.
Engine Options and Powertrain
The 2025 Ram HD offers two engine choices: a gasoline-powered V8 and a reworked Cummins turbo-diesel.
- Standard Engine: The standard engine is a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, producing 405 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque.
- Available Diesel Engine: The available 6.7-liter inline-six Cummins turbo-diesel receives significant updates for the 2025 model year. These updates include a revised block, head, and a new turbocharger. Importantly, all diesel options are the high-output version, rated at 430 horsepower and a substantial 1,075 pound-feet of torque. The diesel engine is now exclusively paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous six-speed option.
Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard on most models, with four-wheel drive (4WD) available. However, the 2500 Power Wagon and Rebel models come standard with 4WD.
Configuration Options
The Ram HD is available in a dizzying array of configurations, including:
- Cab Sizes: Regular (two-door), Crew Cab and Mega Cab.
- Bed Lengths: 6-foot-4-inch and 8-foot beds.
- Dually: Dual rear wheels are available on the 3500 models, but only with the 8-foot bed.
- Trim Levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Power Wagon, Rebel, Laramie, Limited, and Limited Longhorn. (Five levels on the 3500).
The regular cab with an 8-foot bed is exclusive to the Tradesman and Big Horn trims. The crew cab with a 6-foot-4-inch bed is standard for most of the lineup. The crew cab with the 8-foot bed is available on all trims except the Power Wagon and Rebel. The Mega Cab option, which offers extended rear-seat legroom, is found on the Laramie, Limited, and Limited Longhorn trims. It is only available with the shorter bed, 4WD, and the diesel engine.
Safety and Technology Features
Standard safety features for the 2025 Ram HD include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and an integrated trailer brake controller. Available safety equipment includes lane departure warning, lane departure steering assist, a 360-degree camera system, road-sign recognition, a driver attention monitor, automatic high beams, and trailer tire-pressure monitors.
Trim Level Overview
Each trim level offers a unique blend of features and styling:
- Tradesman: The base model with a work-truck focus features black 17-inch steel wheels, LED headlights and foglights, keyless start, vinyl front seats, a six-speaker audio system, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Big Horn: Upgrades from the Tradesman include 18-inch wheels, chrome bumpers, cloth upholstery, and front and rear parking sensors.
- Power Wagon: Designed for off-road capability, the Power Wagon sits higher with Bilstein shocks and all-terrain tires. It includes locking front and rear differentials, a disconnecting front anti-roll bar, skid plates, and a 12,000-pound winch. The Power Wagon also provides modern technology and comfort features.
- Rebel: The Rebel offers a slightly raised ride height and retains the rear locking differential, offering a blend of off-road capability and on-road comfort. The Cummins diesel engine is available on Rebel models.
- Laramie: Builds upon the Power Wagon’s features with body-color bumpers, LED taillights, a dampened tailgate, and keyless entry. The interior features leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, and Alexa Built-In for the infotainment system.
- Limited and Limited Longhorn: These trims provide luxury with unique styling. The Limited offers a modern approach, while the Longhorn features a more rustic design with brown filigreed leather. Both have chrome running boards, RamBox bedside storage bins, 20-inch wheels, rain-sensing windshield wipers, leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch touchscreen, and a 17-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
