SALT LAKE CITY — A motorcyclist died Saturday evening following a crash on State Street in Salt Lake City.
According to the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD), the motorcycle collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of 1700 South and State Street at approximately 6:15 p.m. The rider was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased, but confirmed he was a man.
Officials stated that the driver of the pickup truck is cooperating with the investigation. At this time, the precise cause of the crash remains unknown. A spokesperson for the SLCPD indicated that there is no immediate evidence suggesting impairment; however, the incident is still under investigation. Police also confirmed that the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Traffic is being rerouted as a result of the crash; southbound State Street traffic is being diverted onto Kensington Avenue, and westbound 1700 South traffic is being rerouted onto northbound State Street. The investigation is ongoing.
