German automaker Volkswagen is recalling more than 60,000 electric vehicles in the United States. The recall impacts both Volkswagen and Audi models. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced Friday that the recalled vehicles may fail to display certain gear positions. This poses a risk of the cars rolling away if the parking brake isn’t engaged, potentially increasing the chance of a crash.

The recall affects the Audi Q4 e-tron and the Volkswagen ID.4, both of which are all-electric models.

According to Volkswagen’s safety recall report, the gear indicator problem stems from a software issue. The company became aware of the problem in August after five cases were reported outside the U.S.

Earlier this month, Volkswagen issued another recall, affecting approximately 30,000 vehicles in the U.S. This recall was due to issues with the rearview camera, which did not display properly. That recall primarily impacted Audi Q3 vehicles, along with some Volkswagen Tiguan and Arteon models.
