India Launch Timeline
According to current expectations, Skoda’s maiden electric car in India, potentially the Enyaq, is slated for a September 2025 launch. The company, under the Volkswagen AG umbrella, appears poised to introduce its first EV in India within the year.
Enyaq Details
The Enyaq is built upon the Volkswagen Group’s modular electric toolkit (MEB). Production of the Enyaq is occurring alongside the Octavia and the Elroq electric compact SUV. The manufacturing strategy involves co-locating the production of both internal combustion engine (ICE) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) models at the same facility, allowing for greater adaptability.
Available with two battery sizes and three powertrain options, the EV provides power outputs between 204 bhp and 286 bhp. The Enyaq 60 and Enyaq 85 versions come with a single electric motor and rear-wheel drive. The Enyaq 85x includes a second electric motor at the front offering all-wheel drive.
In terms of range, the EV is expected to offer up to 587 kilometers of range for the Enyaq Coupe and up to 577 kilometers for the Enyaq.
Indian Market Strategy
Following the Indian government’s announcement of a new EV policy and its subsequent amendments to support the electric vehicle sector, Skoda plans to import the Enyaq EV as a completely built unit (CBU). The company intends to begin localizing the Enyaq EV in India at a later stage.
