Volkswagen Enters the EV Market with Competitive Pricing for ID.4 and ID.5
Volkswagen has finally unveiled the pricing and release schedule for its highly anticipated ID.4 and ID.5 electric vehicles. After significant delays, the German automaker aims to make a statement in the competitive electric vehicle market. The pricing structure positions the ID.4 as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y, with the ID.4 Pro starting at $59,990 (before on-road costs) and the performance-oriented ID.5 GTX coupe SUV at $72,990.
Volkswagen is also introducing more affordable options, with an ID.5 Pro and a GTX version of the ID.4 arriving in July.

This puts the ID.4 in a strong position against rivals like the updated Tesla Model Y, priced at $63,400, and the Kia EV5 Air Long Range, at $61,170 (both before on-road costs). While other electric SUVs offer lower prices (BYD Sealion 7 at $54,990 and Geely EX5 at $43,490), the rear-drive ID.4 Pro boasts an impressive 544km range in the combined WLTP cycle, thanks to its 77kWh battery. Charging is another strong suit, with a 175kW DC charging capability, allowing a 10-80 percent charge in under 30 minutes. Home AC charging is capped at 11kW.
Volkswagen is also partnering with Ampol to offer discounted home and on-road charging for buyers.
The ID.4 Pro delivers a brisk performance with 210kW of power and 545Nm of torque, achieving 0-100km/h in a respectable 6.7 seconds. Volkswagen highlights the ID.4’s price parity with the Tiguan 162TSI R-Line, which costs $60,590 and reaches 100km/h in 7.0 seconds.

The ID.5 GTX has 20-inch ‘Ystad’ alloy wheels along with sportier tires. It can sprint to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds, with a slightly larger 79kWh battery providing a 522km range (WLTP specification). Complementing its dynamic performance, the ID.5 GTX includes a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and sports bucket seats.
