The dominance of pickup trucks in the U.S. auto market may be waning, with sales figures suggesting a possible ‘peak truck’ era. For over a decade, the top three best-selling vehicles in the United States were consistently full-size trucks. However, 2024 marked a significant shift.
The Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado maintained their usual positions at the top of the sales charts, securing the gold and silver medals, respectively. The bronze, however, went to a compact SUV: the Toyota RAV4. This marked a notable change, as SUVs gained ground, surpassing traditional pickup trucks.
The RAV4 wasn’t the only SUV to surpass the Ram 1500, which had held the third-place position for over a decade. The Tesla Model Y and the Honda CR-V also outsold the Ram 1500.
