    The Dawn of Electric Hypercars

When electric cars first appeared, they weren’t exactly speed demons. Early models like the Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-Zero showed promise, but they were known for being slow to drive and charge.

Now, the newest generation of battery-powered hypercars is rewriting the rules. They’re breaking speed records and acing acceleration tests, and it’s easy to see why. Electric motors are powerful and compact, delivering instant torque for unmatched responsiveness. Some of these cars use as many as four electric motors, precisely controlled to apply power efficiently. Plus, lithium-ion batteries now feature sophisticated thermal management systems, allowing them to provide their full potential all the time.

    The Fastest Electric Cars

So, which electric cars are at the pinnacle of speed? The current record holder is the Rimac Nevera. It goes from 0 to 62 mph in an astounding 1.8 seconds. Here are ten of the world’s fastest electric cars, showcasing cutting-edge technology from Lotus, Porsche, and Lucid, along with a few surprises.

    1. Aspark Owl

This Japanese electric hypercar company has quickly claimed the title of ‘world’s quickest car.’ The Aspark Owl set two world records in 2023: completing an eighth of a mile at an average speed of 192.03 mph (309.02 kph) and the quarter mile at an average of 198.12 mph (318.85 kph). In November 2024, it secured a Guinness World Record for the fastest battery-powered electric prototype hypercar, hitting a top speed of 273 mph. The Owl has four electric motors generating a combined 1985 bhp, achieving 0-60 mph in 1.72 seconds, and its creators believe they can improve that time. Its 64kWh battery provides a claimed range of 280 miles. Aspark will manufacture only 50 Owls, each priced at £2.5 million.
