Kia EV2 Concept: A Glimpse into Kia’s Small Electric SUV Future
Kia has unveiled a concept version of the EV2, signaling its entry into the competitive compact electric SUV market. Presented at Kia EV Day, the EV2 is poised to become the smallest electric vehicle in Kia’s lineup, aiming to rival vehicles like the Renault 5 and Jeep Avenger. The design adopts similarly bold themes to its larger siblings, the EV3 and EV4, but on a more compact scale.
While Kia has yet to release specific dimensions, the EV2 is expected to be roughly the same size as the Hyundai Inster, a similar offering from Kia’s sister brand. Kia describes the EV2’s design as projecting “a unique, confident character,” emphasizing its “upright stance” as reflective of a “bold, sophisticated focus.”
Innovative Interior Design
The EV2’s boxy shape is intended to maximize practicality, a key consideration for drivers in this segment. The concept showcases rear-hinged doors and the absence of a central B-pillar, features that enhance access to the back seats. Inside, the rear bench is designed to fold down for increased cargo space, while the front bench can slide across the flat floor, offering ample legroom. Kia envisions owners utilizing the EV2’s interior as a versatile space, even suggesting its use as a makeshift dining area.
Further enhancing the EV2’s flexible interior, pop-up sliding luggage dividers are incorporated. The concept also includes the intriguing feature of projecting text messages onto the windows, allowing communication with other road users. Triangular design elements are a prominent feature throughout the EV2’s cabin, including patterned LED lights on the dashboard and removable triangular speakers mounted in the door trims.
Expanding the EV Lineup
Adding to the EV2’s appeal as a mobile entertainment hub is the inclusion of Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging capability, a feature often reserved for larger EVs. This allows the EV2’s battery to power domestic appliances. Details about the EV2’s powertrain are expected closer to its production launch, slated for 2026.
Kia also took the opportunity at EV Day to provide more details about the EV4, a saloon and hatchback model that will be available later this year. The long-range version of the four-door EV4 is projected to offer a range of 391 miles on a full charge, while the equivalent EV4 hatchback will manage 367 miles.
