A 73-year-old Ocala man died after being struck by a pickup truck late Tuesday on State Road 40. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred near Northwest 41st Avenue around 11:45 p.m.

According to an FHP news release, the pickup truck was traveling east in the inside lane of SR 40 when it struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was walking in an unknown direction within the same lane. The driver, a 42-year-old man from Ocala, did not see the pedestrian and the vehicle made impact. The driver was uninjured.
Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the call at 11:47 p.m., arriving at 11:53 p.m. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene three minutes later, according to spokesman James Lucas.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim, as his family had not been notified at the time of the report. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The investigation is ongoing.
