SEOUL, April 28 (Reuters) – Hyundai Motor and Kia Corp announced on Sunday that they have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Baidu Inc to collaborate on the development of technologies for connected cars. This partnership aims to integrate Baidu’s expertise in artificial intelligence and internet services with Hyundai and Kia’s automotive manufacturing prowess.

The agreement signals a strategic move by the South Korean automakers to enhance their connected car features and stay competitive in an increasingly technology-driven automotive market. Details on the specific technologies to be developed were not immediately available, but the partnership suggests a focus on areas such as in-car infotainment systems, autonomous driving capabilities, and other connected services.

This collaboration highlights the growing importance of technology partnerships in the automotive industry. Automakers are increasingly seeking alliances with technology companies to accelerate innovation and integrate cutting-edge features into their vehicles. This trend is driven by consumer demand for advanced connectivity and digital services in their cars, which drives automakers to seek partnerships with tech firms.
