Nashville police are searching for a pickup truck following a fatal hit-and-run involving a scooter driver in South Nashville.
The incident occurred on Old Hickory Boulevard near Firestone Parkway shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday. According to a statement from the police department, the victim, identified as Charles A. Fountain, 65, of Jacksonville, Florida, was riding a scooter when he was struck by what is believed to be a dark-colored Toyota Tacoma.
Police believe Fountain pulled out of a nearby Dollar General and was traveling along the shoulder of Old Hickory Boulevard. He then attempted to cross the road when the collision occurred.
“Witnesses reported seeing sparks coming from underneath the truck as it dragged the scooter more than 900 feet near to Firestone Parkway,” the police statement said. “Once the victim and the scooter became dislodged, the truck fled on Old Hickory Boulevard toward Murfreesboro Pike.”
