Mercedes-Benz is gearing up for an aggressive expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) lineup, with its high-performance AMG division spearheading the charge. According to a recent report from Autocar, the automaker will unveil an electric supercar concept later this year. This concept car will serve as a preview for the powertrains that will power dedicated AMG electric sedans and SUVs slated for release within the next two years.

Based on the radical Vision One-Eleven concept from 2023, the new concept car demonstrates Mercedes’ electric future ambitions. The report also makes several additional claims, including the introduction of a new GLB SUV with both hybrid and electric options, and a heavily revised EQS that will adopt the prestigious S-class designation.
This announcement follows Mercedes-Benz’s declaration that the redesigned CLA will initiate the most intense product launch in the company’s nearly century-long history. Before 2027, several new or significantly refreshed vehicles will debut, including a face-lifted S-class, recently spied testing in Sweden.
AMG’s Electric Future Takes Shape
The all-electric Mercedes-AMG supercar concept reportedly draws inspiration from the Vision One-Eleven concept. Sources indicate this concept will showcase a groundbreaking powertrain capable of delivering the fastest acceleration ever seen in an AMG car. It’s expected to be a sleek, two-door model, representing the future of dedicated AMG EVs scheduled for release within the next couple of years.
These upcoming EVs will include a sedan – effectively the next generation of the AMG GT sedan – and an SUV. This rapid acceleration is anticipated, thanks to a new axial-flux electric motor developed by Yasa, a British company acquired by Mercedes in 2021. The supercar concept is also rumored to feature a next-generation battery, potentially a solid-state unit, incorporating technology developed by the High Performance Powertrain division responsible for the hybrid powertrains used in Mercedes’ F1 cars.
A Multi-Powertrain Strategy
The supercar concept represents just a portion of the numerous product reveals coming from Mercedes. Besides the CLA, which will feature both an electric powertrain and a 48-volt electrified four-cylinder engine, the company also revealed plans for electric versions of the GLC SUV, C-class sedan, and E-class sedan. This move signifies a shift away from the EQ moniker, in favor of offering various powertrains under the current nameplates.

The GLC EV is expected to debut this year. The GLC EV and C-class EV will share a platform, with AMG-tuned versions anticipated. They should feature both single-motor/rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor/all-wheel-drive configurations. According to Autocar, the CLA will be joined by a new GLB SUV that is expected to grow in size, sharing powertrains with the CLA sedan. The electric version will also use the GLB designation, replacing the EQB nameplate.
In 2026, a refreshed S-class will debut with a redesigned front fascia and updated software for its screen-covered dashboard. Additionally, a more advanced Level 3 autonomous driving system will improve on the current Drive Pilot. The electric EQS is also scheduled for a significant rework and will be rebranded as an S-class model, despite utilizing a different platform.

AMG’s initial dedicated EV will be unveiled in 2026, with the aforementioned sedan coming first, to be followed by the SUV version in 2027. Mercedes has released teasers of both models in their testing phase. Both the sedan and the SUV will use a new platform called AMG.EA.
Other upcoming models encompass refreshes to the gas-powered C-class, EQS SUV, EQE sedan, and EQE SUV Furthermore, facelifts are slated for the gas-powered GLE and GLS SUVs, extending their lifespans to around 2030. More details about the baby G-class, recently confirmed by Mercedes, are expected in 2026, preceding its debut in 2027. The baby G-class is also likely to share design with the updated GLB.
