Telo, a company aiming to revolutionize the truck market, has unveiled its MT1 mini EV truck, offering a glimpse into its vision of compact yet capable electric vehicles. The company plans to begin production next year. This truck is designed to provide the utility of larger trucks but in a smaller footprint, hoping to be a solution to the current trend of oversized vehicles.
The MT1, as shown in a video from The Fast Lane Truck, combines a five-foot bed with a downsized cabin. This design gives the truck a cab-over look. It also features a folding mid-gate, similar to the GMC Sierra EV, allowing it to accommodate items up to eight feet long. A tonneau cover provides secure storage capabilities.
While the design is innovative, the powertrain relies on off-the-shelf components such as e-motors and standard designs. This approach supports either dual-motor all-wheel drive or single-motor rear-wheel drive configurations, along with a limited-slip differential for improved traction. The MT1 uses 400-volt power components, with Telo’s CEO estimating they’ll support 250-kW charging capabilities thanks to the pack chemistry.
The base model of the MT1 is set to start at $41,520, offering a range of 260 miles and 300 horsepower. A long-range option extends the range to 350 miles using a 106 kWh battery, costing roughly $4,000 more. Customers can also opt for dual-motor all-wheel drive, increasing the price by another $5,000. Telo says the MT1 is designed to handle a payload of 1,700 lbs and tow up to 6,600 lbs.
Telo aims to begin production of the MT1 next year, using a contract manufacturer. Bringing a new car company to production is a challenge. It remains to be seen if Telo can deliver on its ambitious plans.
