Caselani, an Italian coachbuilder, has unveiled the Type-Ami, a conversion kit that gives the Citroën Ami quadricycle a neo-retro makeover inspired by the iconic Citroën HY van. This conversion kit allows owners to transform their Ami into a vehicle that evokes the spirit of the post-war era.
The conversion process, designed by Caselani, involves replacing the original front, rear, doors, and wings of the Citroën Ami with vintage-style panels. The kit includes fiberglass body panels, along with the necessary brackets and screws, allowing owners to perform the transformation themselves. The kit is compatible with both new and used Citroën Ami quadricycles. The equipment is handcrafted by Caselani’s technicians at their factory in Northern Italy.
The Type-Ami is Caselani’s fourth product line, following its series of van conversions based on Stellantis’ Pro One vehicles.
Drivers can choose from six solid colors and three metallic shades for their converted Type-Ami. Custom shades are also available upon request, allowing for personalization. The conversion retains the standard Ami’s covered hood and sunroof, with the Type-Ami modifications primarily focusing on the vehicle’s sides to mimic the HY van’s appearance as closely as possible. The retrofit incorporates engraved-like lines, adding a distinctive ‘bumpy’ personality that sets it apart from the original Citroën Ami while celebrating the design of the HY van, which was produced until 1981.
The design of the Type-Ami is a collaboration between David Obendorfer, Caselani’s in-house designer, and a team from the Citroën Style Centre, supervised by Pierre Leclercq. The result is a conversion that, according to Caselani, successfully evokes nostalgia with a detailed and thorough execution.
