Chinese EVs Emerge in Nigeria’s Market
In Lagos, Nigeria, an unassuming car dealership is starting to turn heads. Saglev, an independent electric vehicle dealer, is introducing Nigerians to a range of EVs from Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Group. The showroom features cars like Voyah, Nammi, and Mhero.

The presence of these EVs in the upmarket Victoria Island neighborhood reflects a changing landscape in Nigeria’s automotive market.
As gasoline prices rise, electric cars are increasingly becoming a more cost-effective option for Nigerian drivers. However, a significant hurdle remains: the country’s inconsistent power supply. Despite this, the introduction of Chinese EVs signals a shift towards electric mobility in Nigeria as it addresses the financial burden of expensive gasoline.
