Mahindra XUV 3XO Could Get Hybrid and Electric Engines in India
The Mahindra XUV 3XO subcompact SUV, which initially debuted in India in early 2019, is poised for a significant transformation. Despite its strong safety ratings and features, the original model struggled to capture substantial market share. In 2024, Mahindra & Mahindra revitalized the vehicle with a major upgrade, rebranding it as the XUV 3XO. The updated version has successfully generated considerable sales volume for the home-grown automaker.
Currently, the XUV 3XO lineup is available with prices ranging from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 15.56 lakh (ex-showroom). It offers a range of engine options, including a 1.2L turbo petrol (110 bhp/200 Nm), a 1.2L TGDi turbo petrol (129 bhp/230 Nm), and a 1.5L turbo diesel (115 bhp/300 Nm). The Indian automaker is now planning to introduce the XUV 3XO with both electric and hybrid powertrains in the near future.
Here is a closer look at the upcoming iterations:
Mahindra XUV 3XO Electric
The electric version of the subcompact SUV has been undergoing testing for some time. Spy shots reveal a redesigned front grille with a larger central air intake and new badging. Distinctive features such as new alloy wheels, C-shaped taillamps, and other EV-specific design elements will further differentiate it from its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart.
Inside, this electric compact SUV will likely feature updated switchgear on the center console, along with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a tire pressure monitoring system, push-button start/stop, Adrenox connected car technology with built-in Alexa, dual-zone climate control, auto headlamps and wipers, multiple airbags, and other advanced features.
While official powertrain details are not yet available, the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV is expected to use a 35kWh battery pack, a slightly smaller version of the 40kWh battery found in the XUV400. The anticipated range and power output figures are still under wraps.

Mahindra XUV 3XO Hybrid
Anticipating the rising demand for hybrid vehicles, Mahindra & Mahindra intends to introduce a hybrid powertrain option to its popular models, including the XUV 3XO subcompact SUV. This will mark the brand’s inaugural hybrid SUV, with an estimated launch sometime next year. The details of the Mahindra XUV 3XO strong hybrid remain undisclosed at this time.
However, reports suggest that the model will be powered by the 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired with Mahindra’s new hybrid system. Minimal design alterations are expected, both inside and out, with the exception of ‘Hybrid’ badging.
The home-grown automaker is also evaluating range extender hybrids for its born-electric SUVs, which are codenamed M130 and M330. However, these vehicles are expected to be less fuel-efficient than conventional hybrid models and will necessitate regular powertrain maintenance.
