Mercedes-AMG Electric Performance Sedan: Everything We Know
Mercedes-AMG is gearing up for a new era of electric performance. The company is developing multiple EVs on a dedicated architecture, with the first examples set to debut this year. Among them will be a high-performance electric sports sedan, poised to replace the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.
What Will It Look Like?

The new sedan will draw inspiration from the Vision AMG Concept, which was slightly longer than the current AMG GT 4-Door. According to teaser images released by Mercedes, similar proportions should carry over to the production vehicle, though there will be some significant changes at the back. Designers suggest the final production model may feature a reimagined Panamericana grille, a low nose, and pronounced fenders. Furthermore, the EV will likely include canards on the front bumper and an active rear spoiler.

While the rendering doesn’t show the car’s rear, photos released by AMG reveal a more functional design, as opposed to the original concept’s pointed back end. The automaker has hidden styling details under camouflage, using fake, Miata-like taillights. It should be a practical five-door liftback, like its predecessor.
What Will Mercedes Call It?

While the exact name remains unconfirmed, reports indicate the electric sedan will replace the AMG GT 4-Door. However, it will not use the ‘EQ’ prefix, as Mercedes is moving away from that nomenclature. Instead, it will be branded with “EQ Technology” after the model’s name, similar to the G580 with EQ Technology, though AMG may use something completely unique.
What Platform Will It Ride On?
The four-door electric coupe will ride on the performance brand’s new, dedicated AMG.EA architecture. This 800-volt platform will not be shared with mainstream Mercedes models, keeping the technology exclusive to AMG. It will feature a slimmer battery pack, resulting in a roomier cabin while boosting energy density by 40 percent. This platform will also underpin an AMG SUV, with similar performance, and even a supercar.
What Will Power It?
The AMG electric sedan will utilize new disc-shaped axial-flux electric motors from Yasa, a British subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. These motors are described to have an “unparalleled mix of power density, size, and weight” compared to traditional cylindrical radial-flux motors. Each motor weighs only 53 pounds but produces 480 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.
AMG is expected to equip the vehicle with at least two of these motors, which should yield upward of 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive will be standard, with a tri-motor configuration, capable of nearly 1,500 horsepower, also being a possibility.
When Will It Go on Sale?
While AMG has not released an official debut date for the sedan, the reveal is expected to occur early this year. This suggests the EVs could go on sale sometime by early 2026. The fact that the automaker is already teasing these cars indicates that the reveal is nearing.
How Much Will It Cost?
Given it will replace the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, which starts at $113,150, the electric sedan is expected to have a higher starting price. The AMG EQS, which makes up to 751 hp, has a $148,700 starting price. The new four-door coupe, with its new motor, batteries, and platform, could easily start above $150,000.
What Will It Compete Against?
The electric sedan will compete with other high-performance electric sedans like the Porsche Taycan. Also, the vehicle will compete against cars like the 1,500-hp Xiaomi SU7 Ultra from China, the Lucid Air, and the Tesla Model S.
Does This Mean AMG V-8s Are Dead?
Despite the development of a dedicated EV architecture, Mercedes-AMG has confirmed that new V-8 models are in the works. AMG CEO Michael Schiebe stated that customers are drawn to the brand for its technology, and, “when it comes to electric driving, I’m pretty sure they will jump into that new technology because it will be the latest and greatest that you can get.”
