Ford has issued a second recall concerning approximately 141 of its 2022 model year Maverick pickup trucks. The recall addresses a software malfunction that can cause the vehicles’ brake lights to illuminate unexpectedly, even when the driver is not applying the brakes.
This is not the first time Ford has addressed this issue. The company previously recalled these trucks last year, implementing a software update designed to correct the problem. Unfortunately, Ford has since determined that the software tool employed by dealerships to install the update was flawed, leading to improper installation in certain trucks. Consequently, dealerships are required to reattempt the update.
The corrective measure involves installing the same software update that resolved the issue in the majority of affected vehicles. However, this time, dealerships will utilize a new process to verify the successful completion of the upload before returning the trucks to their owners. As with all recalls, the necessary repairs will be provided free of charge.
While manufacturers make every effort to contact all vehicle owners, successful communication is not always guaranteed. Owners can check if their vehicle requires any safety-related repairs at a recall center.
