Volkswagen’s ID. EVERY1: An Affordable EV for Europe

Volkswagen has introduced the ID. EVERY1, a new all-electric show car positioned as an affordable entry point to their growing “ID” lineup of electric vehicles. With an expected MSRP of approximately 20,000 euros ($21,500), the production version of this compact EV is slated for a 2027 launch.

Despite past software challenges in its EV development, Volkswagen is aggressively expanding its electric vehicle offerings. The automaker’s existing ID.4 has found success in both Europe and the US, and it’s been joined by models like the ID.3 and the ID.Buzz van. The company plans to roll out nine new EV models by 2027, four of which will utilize VW’s FWD MEB platform.

This ID. EVERY1 concept, as its name suggests, highlights affordability and aims to be accessible to a wide range of buyers—specifically those in Europe. Volkswagen showed the concept in Germany, echoing the plans to bring the production version to market by 2027.

    EV Details

According to Volkswagen, the ID. EVERY1 is designed to be a “sporty, compact show car.”

The production version will follow the ID.2all, which is expected to be available in Europe as early as 2026. The ID.2all will start at around 25,000 euros ($27,000). Both cars will be part of the new “Electric Urban Car Family,” designed for the European market and utilizing the automaker’s FWD MEB platform.

While software hasn’t been mentioned much, given past issues, it is expected that some technology from Rivian will be incorporated into these European models as part of a $5.8 billion partnership that was announced last summer.

Volkswagen Brand CEO Thomas Schäfer stated that the ID. EVERY1 helps round out a diverse range of electrified models for Europe, and other markets.

“The ID. EVERY1 represents the last piece of the puzzle on our way to the widest model selection in the volume segment. We will then offer every customer the right car with the right drive system—including affordable all-electric entry-level mobility. Our goal is to be the world’s technologically leading high-volume manufacturer by 2030. And as a brand for everyone—just as you would expect from Volkswagen.”

Volkswagen also mentioned that the production version of the ID. EVERY1 will be the first in the entire Group lineup to use a “fundamentally new and particularly powerful software architecture.” There are many who speculate this system will be based on software by Rivian.
