Volkswagen has provided a preview of its sub-£17,000 ID. Every1 electric vehicle, a move expected to significantly impact the brand’s electric vehicle offerings as it transitions away from petrol and diesel models.

The ID. Every1 will serve as the German brand’s entry-level electric car, with an estimated cost of just €20,000, which is equivalent to £16,763. The production version of the ID. Every1 is scheduled for launch in 2027, while the ID.2all is expected to hit roads sooner, in 2026, for approximately €25,000 ( £20,954).

By 2027, the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer plans to introduce nine new models, including four electric vehicles. The ID. Every1 and ID.2all will both be built on Volkswagen’s new modular electric drive (MEB) platform with front-wheel drive.

The concept model of the ID. Every1 boasts a top speed of 130km/h (80mph), a range of at least 250km (155 miles), and a luggage compartment volume of 305 liters.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen, stated, “The ID. Every1 represents the last piece of the puzzle on our way to the widest model selection in the volume segment. We will then offer every customer the right car with the right drive system – including affordable all-electric entry-level mobility.”

Schäfer continued, “Our goal is to be the world’s technologically leading high-volume manufacturer by 2030. And as a brand for everyone – just as you would expect from Volkswagen.”

First-look images of the ID. Every1 show a sleek electric vehicle, inspired by the design of the popular up! model, which was manufactured until 2023. Volkswagen’s head of design, Andreas Mindt, explained the brand’s aim to create a design that is “bold yet accessible,” with dynamic front lights and a “smiling” rear.

The interior design features black and orange detailing, complemented by flush white seats and a minimalist approach. Drivers will have access to multiple controls on the steering wheel and a relatively uncluttered dashboard, a design preference expressed by an increasing number of drivers.

As is customary with new models, the concept vision includes an infotainment screen showing vehicle status, music settings, heating control, and built-in maps.

Mindt added that the design features make the vehicle “more than just a car”, with the ID. Every1 possessing a character and identity “people can relate to.”

Kai Grünitz, development lead on the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management, said, “In the future model, we talk about Customer Defined Vehicles. The ID. Every1 shows that we are putting our customers, their wishes, interests and preferences at the centre of vehicle development more consistently than ever.”

The ID. Every1 and ID.2all are the inaugural components of the “Future Volkswagen” agreement, which seeks to combine economic stability, employment, and technological leadership. Volkswagen aspires to “catch up” by boosting competitiveness, “attack” the established market using affordable electric models, and “lead” by having the best-selling range of cars by 2030.
