Volkswagen is gearing up to unveil the ID.Every1, a new all-electric city car concept. This model is designed to be an entry-level EV, and is expected to enter global markets in 2027. However, North American consumers shouldn’t hold their breath. The anticipated starting price will be around €20,000 (approximately $30,000 CAD).

The rising cost of electric vehicles has been a barrier for many potential buyers. Automakers like Volkswagen are actively working to make EVs more accessible. The ID.Every1 will be a key part of this strategy, following the ID.2, a compact model slated for release in 2026 at under €25,000, which also won’t be available in Canada.

The ID.Every1 concept will use a modified, cost-effective version of the MEB platform, already utilized in the ID.4 and ID.Buzz models. This adjusted platform is engineered to suit smaller vehicles, with a single front-mounted motor.

Technical specifications for the ID.Every1 include a 94-hp electric motor on the front axle. According to the European WLTP cycle, its battery offers a range of 250 km. The top speed is 130 km/h. In terms of size, the car is similar to the dimensions of a Mini Cooper, measuring 3.88 meters long. The rear cargo capacity is roughly 305 liters.

Even though the ID.Every1 may not be available in the US, the design innovations are expected to influence other new VW models worldwide. The car’s aesthetics, developed by VW design chief Andreas Mindt, aim for a warmer and more inviting appearance.

“The ID.Every1 has a self-assured appearance but remains likable, thanks to details such as the dynamic front lights and the smiling rear,” Mindt explained. “These design elements make it more than just a car; they give it character and an identity that people can relate to.”

Volkswagen plans to introduce nine new electric models by 2027. Some of these will be built on the new SSP platform. Initially scheduled for 2026, the platform’s launch might be delayed to 2028 or later. It will be used for the next-generation Golf Mk9 and the T-Roc SUV.
