CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck Tuesday morning on Santa Barbara Boulevard near Veterans Parkway, leading to traffic delays during the morning commute.
According to the Cape Coral Police Department, the man was hit by the vehicle just south of Veterans Pkwy. shortly before 7 a.m. The pedestrian’s injuries are considered to be non-life-threatening.
Authorities are still investigating whether impairment was a factor in the accident. Gulf Coast News reporters at the scene observed a bicycle lodged under the front of the pickup truck; it is not yet clear whether the man was riding the bike at the time of the crash.
The crash temporarily closed two northbound lanes of Santa Barbara Boulevard, causing delays as police and emergency responders worked the scene. The road has since been reopened. Police have not yet released the identity of the pedestrian or any potential charges.
