Voluntown Dirt Bike Crash Claims One Life, Injures Three
Voluntown, Conn. (Updated March 11, 2025 at 10:38 AM EDT) – One person was killed and three others were injured after a pickup truck collided with a group of dirt bike riders in Voluntown on Monday evening.
The collision occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Route 49 near the intersection of Route 138, according to Connecticut State Police.
A 64-year-old man from the Jewett City area of Griswold was driving a 2011 Ford F-150 south on Route 49 when the truck struck three dirt bike riders in the southbound lane. A fourth rider managed to avoid being hit.
One of the riders, identified as 28-year-old Michael Davis of Norwich, was transported to William W. Backus Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, state police confirmed. Another rider, a 26-year-old man from the Niantic section of East Lyme, was airlifted via LifeStar to Hartford Hospital and treated for serious injuries.
The third rider involved, a 20-year-old man from the Taftville area of Norwich, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Backus Hospital by ambulance, according to state police. The fourth rider, a 25-year-old Voluntown resident, was uninjured.
The driver of the pickup truck was also transported to the Backus Plainfield Emergency Care Center for minor injuries, state police said.
Connecticut State Police troopers are investigating the crash.
